CLINIC UPDATE
Published: Mon, Jan 15, 2018, 11:47AM CST

LEE HEALTH UPDATE

A very high number of Influenza (Flu) cases have been reported in our area. Dallas County has reported over 20 deaths related to the influenza virus this year.

If your child has any Flu Like Symptoms please keep them home. A child that is sick cannot learn effectively and is unable to participate in a meaningful way. Keeping a sick child home prevents the spread of illness in the school community and allows the child opportunity to rest and recover.

Students with a temperature 100º F or greater should stay home until fever-free for 24 hours without the aid of a fever suppressing medication (e.g. Tylenol, Motrin, Acetaminophen, ibuprofen)

*It’s important to note that not everyone with flu will have a fever, so please keep your child home if they don’t feel well.

Please notify us of any flu like symptoms as well as any diagnosis of anything contagious. We want to keep ALL LEE LEARNERS HEALTHY!

ROOM PARENT FUND UPDATE
Published: Mon, Jan 15, 2018, 11:47AM CST

Thank you all for your generous contributions made towards Room Parent (Lee house)Fund. We used those funds to give $50 (total $3750) gift cards to all the 76 designers/specials/staff (35-Clas Designers, 33-Specials and staff, 5-Cafeteria staff, 3-Custodians) at Lee Elementary. We also used $1400 for winter party. It was a fun filled entertainment with so many food, drink, craft and game stations. All the kids loved it!!! A big Thank You to all the wonderful Room Parents who made this happen.

Some of the funds are used every month to give gift cards of $25/each for designers’ birthdays. Thank you Patricia for designing the birthday t-shirts to all the designers. The rest of the funds will be used for Valentines and Teacher Appreciation Week celebrations.

Reading Program
Published: Mon, Jan 15, 2018, 11:47AM CST

We are part of the Coppell High School team for Destination Imagination, a nationally recognized organization that helps teach STEAM principles to kids of all ages. Our team has decided to compete in the Service Learning competition, requiring us to help address a problem in our community: encouraging kids to get off their technology and get out to see their community. Our project, Lit. Kids, aims to inspire kids to read more and experience the world around them. We have created a program through which children are invited to a different location in Coppell each month for a fun story and an interactive activity. Next month, we are meeting in the Coppell community garden and reading “Oh Say Can You Seed”, by Bonnie Worth.

Attached is a flyer with more information.

Cold weather
COLDER WEATHER
Published: Sun, Jan 7, 2018, 11:19AM CST

Please be mindful as it gets colder that we watch the weather (Weatherbug) to make sure it is safe for learners to have recess. It is important that learners come prepared with appropriate cold weather gear for recess. It is helpful if you label hats, gloves, and coats with a permanent marker so that if items are lost, they find their way back to your child.
We strictly follow CISD Weather Policies. If the temperature or wind chill falls into the 30s, outside recess will be limited to 15 minutes. Below freezing temperatures warrant inside recess.

Destinationimagination
Appraisers needed for Destination Imagination Program
Published: Sun, Jan 7, 2018, 11:19AM CST

A big thank you to Mrs Kastrounis for her continued support and encouragement of Destination Imagination program at Lee. We have 9 Teams from Lee elementary taking part in Regional Tournament in February.

As it is a completely voluntary run program, each team need to have at least one Appraiser for the Tournament.

Who is an Appraiser?
Appraisers are valued members of the tournament “staff” and we take good care of them. Throughout the day we feed them breakfast, lunch, snacks and cold drinks and give them breaks and a very cool DI t-shirt.

Appraiser Qualifications:
1. Must be at least 18 years old and no longer enrolled in high school. We will accept high school seniors who have participated in DI for a number of years.
2. May not appraise the performance of a team which includes his/her own family member. Exception:
Rising Stars appraisers may appraise their own family members on Rising Stars teams ONLY, since it is non-competitive.
3. May not appraise the performance of a team for which he/she has served as a Team Manager.
4. Must attend a half-day Appraiser Training workshop.
5. Does not need to have prior DI experience or training.

Appraiser Roles:
For Team Challenges, a typical Appraisal Team consists of a least 7-11 people per site, including scoring appraisers and support officials (Organizer, Timekeeper/Announcer). For Instant Challenges, a typical Appraisal Team consists of 4 people per site, all of whom score.

Training:
All appraisers must attend a half day of training on February 3 (8:30am-12:30pm). Location is The Education Services Division Center at 1820 Pearl St., Carrollton, 75006. Alternate dates in adjacent regions may be available if an appraiser isn’t available on Feb. 3.

Tournament:
The TVNC DI Regional Tournament will be held on February 24, at Turner HS in Carrollton. Most appraisers will have a long day with a typical schedule of 7:00 am until 5 pm. Some challenges will have a shorter time commitment. Actual times vary by challenge and will be given to you after the schedule is complete.

If you are interested in volunteering as an Appraiser please contact Ratna at manjusharatna@yahoo.com.
